Grief/Loss
Information about
Grief/Loss:
Grief in high performers often extends far beyond death—it can include the loss of identity after injury, retirement, a career shift, a relationship, or even the version of you that once felt unstoppable. You might notice it in subtle ways: difficulty focusing, a sense of emotional flatness, questioning your purpose, or feeling disconnected from the work or sport that used to define you. For athletes and high-achievers, grief is often minimized or bypassed in the name of resilience, which can leave it unprocessed and unresolved. In working with me, you’re likely looking for a space that understands both your drive and your loss—where you can process what’s changed without losing your edge, and learn how to carry grief in a way that allows for clarity, meaning, and sustainable performance.
Sometimes the hardest part is realizing that what you’re carrying actually is grief. You may be navigating loss related to:
• Death of a loved one (including pets).
• Injury or changes in physical ability.
• Relationship break-ups or divorce.
• Trades, waivers, retirement, or career transitions.
• Missed roles, opportunities, or goals.
• Changes in coaches, teammates, or team dynamics.
• Loss of confidence, image, or sense of self.
• Shifts in identity, purpose, or the version of yourself you once knew.
